This policy has not been thought out in any way. The Bill was introduced right before Christmas break and, from the sounds of it, will have no public consultation.
The Greenbelt and other environmental areas in Ontario are exceptionally important. Not only to our ability to survive (since they are what clean the water before it gets to Toronto), but for clean air, animal and bird habitat, the list goes on.
The policy states if 50 or more jobs are created on a development that is “predominately” industrial, the municipality can approve it. But that also means there could be retail or even residential uses as part of the development.
Please learn from Ontario’s history. Many years ago, the Oak Ridges Moraine was decimated for development (at that time, farming). The soil eroded. It started affecting water quality. Now we’be spent the last 40+ years trying to rebuild it.
Do not open the Greenbelt to ANY development. Premier Ford said during his run that he would not. The people of Ontario expect him to keep his word. Do not pass this bill.
