As a resident of Ontario this proposal really concerns me. It is a sweeping change to municipal planning that provides the opportunity for public consultation on new development to be eliminated. This is really un-Canadian.
Removing any appeal process?... really. You mean to tell me that the only say I have in municipal planning is during a municipal election? Elections are hardly the time for resolving complex planning and development issues.
It may not be pretty but my community makes decisions together. As a business owner I’ve had the experience of engaging in development projects which brought forward local opposition. While it may feel good to think about the power to move projects forward without opposition or time consuming process; I would not choose the path set out in these changes. While I may not agree with my neighbours I certainly respect their concerns and their right to be informed and have a say in community development.
Thank you for reading my concerns. I hope you will give this one a good rethink.
