I am writing to express my sincere disappointment for the complete lack of effort put forth by LUSH Manufacturing on 35 and 50 Jutland Road, over the past 4 years. I have lived in my home on Trueman Avenue for the past 25 years, and have never once complained over any sort of neighbour or business that might have caused me difficulty. I must say that the potent, perfume-like emissions coming from both Lush centres on Jutland Road are extremely uncomfortable, and have caused me great pain, anxiety and difficulty. Not only does breathing in the strong smelling odours hurt my nostrils, but the odours also give me headaches when I breathe them in for great periods of time. The odours emitted from these facilities have completely destroyed all enjoyment of my property, causing my family and I to think twice before spending an evening outside, taking our dog for a walk to the park, having a family BBQ, or even opening up a window for "fresh air". I can no longer live, work, play and BREATHE the way I should rightfully be able to. The smell has caused me embarrassment when hosting a get-together and difficulty with enjoying my own property and spending time outdoors. I also feel anxious very often, as I smell the odour so much that I cannot always take time out of my day to call in to the Ministry of Environment and report the smell. This makes me feel anxious as I feel that it is a never-ending cycle of complaints and phone calls, and I feel that I must drop everything that I am doing to make a call and complain. I have become very tired over this process. I have also consulted with the City of Toronto Councillor and council staff, organized a community meeting with LUSH staff and Councillor staff present, met with the local MPP, met with many other concerned residents and feel that I have exhausted the system. LUSH has not been cooperative during the past 4 years and I feel that they are not making an effort to assist the residents who have to live smelling the disgusting and toxic-like fumes being emitted. BOTH LUSH FACILITIES emit fumes at ALL HOURS of the day AND night, regardless of their set "manufacturing hours" that they are clearly disobeying. I can smell LUSH odours all along the Queensway, as far as the Cineplex theatres, while dining at K&B Sushi and Spoon and Fork, as well as while boxing at Kingsway Boxing Club on 22B Jutland Road. I can also smell the fumes while attending mass at Holy Angels Church, at the Holy Angels School playground, and at the 711 on Islington and Jutland while I fill up my gas tank. This is not how residents of this neighbourhood should be living. We should not have to breathe in LUSH odours throughout our day to day activities, let alone in our homes. Please refer LUSH to a facility where they can continue to create their disgustingly smelly products, away from a residential neighbourhood which preexists their era. If I wanted to smell perfume all day, I would have moved next to LUSH purposefully, rather than LUSH moving next to ME. No other industrial facility on Jutland Road has EVER impacted residents of the neighbourhood so negatively until LUSH came around. Please help us enjoy fresh air once again.
