I'm concerned about the 'accountability' aspect of these proposed changes. Accountability to what? Ecological integrity? Water quality? Provincial budget/taxpayer? This objective is vaguely outlined and my concern is that the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Rod Phillips isn't actually qualified or literate in conservation management. Plain and simple, he just has no background related to the environment, conservation or even parks.

However, there are lots of qualified ecologists, forestry and watershed experts as well as outdoor recreation specialists within the local conservation authorities. I have a lot of trust in these individuals to create great working policy. If he keeps an open mind to listen and is able to collaborate with them, perhaps we can find cost-effective solutions to modernize the Conservation Authorities Act.
