I object, the wilderness of Ontario is used by many who prefer not to cause damage. The bears are not dangerous, hiking, and recreating near where bear hunting happens is dangerous. Ontario better not allow this change to take place.
This is another ridiculous change which in my opinion has no merit other than to accommodate bear hunters that are too lazy to walk a few metres from their ATV's to set up their slop buckets. This is just shooting not hunting.
This of course also creates a serious safety issue for all forest recreational users as high powered rifles are considered by their manufacturers to be dangerous within 4km or more!
I am also concerned that the lobbyists quietly are getting the Spring Bear Hunt fully approved again and during this time the significant extension of the Fall hunt into August was never changed back meaning bears are under the gun and bow from the majority of the time from when they emerge in the Spring to Fall.
We are proposing to reduce the minimum distance requirement for placement of bait from rights of way for public vehicular traffic and marked and maintained recreational trails for black bear hunting from 200 metres to 30 metres.
