I would like the application of municipal zoning on Crown land clarified as it does not apply to aggregate extraction and would gut Municipal protection of waterways in Haliburton through set back requirements, by giving operators carte blanche for aggregate development on Crown Land, including setback requirements at the proposed McClintoch Road /Harvey Lake Quarry.
I would like the Provincial Government to:
• Reconsider overriding local planning and work collaboratively with municipalities to ensure property owners and tax paying citizens expectations are considered.
• Require all proposed aggregate applications with all categories of potential waterway impacts (i.e.: groundwater, feeder streams, wetlands, fissures etc.) to participate in the more robust application process requirement for quarries below the waterline, set out in the Provincial announcement – in concert with the Government’s protection of water resources policies.
• Consider a 2,000-metre setback requirement from all waterfront designations in alignment with many Official Town Plans.
For your consideration,
