I am supportive of this proposal. This proposal serves to remove the redundancy of two acts that cover the same items and requirements. The expertise in forest management and the requirements under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act lies within the MNRF, not the MECP. MECP staff rely so much on MNRF staff anyhow in coming to decisions on things like Individual Environmental Assessment requests that it was an unwieldy and unnecessary and inefficient effort. The CFSA provides for more than adequate assurances of sustainability of forestry activities and provides for a fair and balanced issue resolution process that greatly reduces uncertainty in planning and operations.
