In May 2017 Toronto City Council passed a motion to update the incinerator at the Highland Creek Waste Water Treatment Plan to better deal with the waste left after treatment. An alternate proposal was to truck the waste out of the plant as pellets for fertilizer. This caused a major uproar from the residents in this suburban area since it would have resulted in some 100 trucks a day travelling the streets of our residential neighbourhoods using routes to and from Highway 401. This resulted in the decision Council took.
Three years later we are now faced with a very similar proposal from the 2683517 Ontario Inc. company that currently recycles construction materials at 633 Coronation Drive, Scarborough. Their proposal is to expand the feed stock to include trucked in food waste and other materials, to the tune of 100 trucks a day travelling the streets of our residential area to and from Highway 401. This is exactly the situation we the residents faced in 2017.
In view of the impact of such a proposal on our residential neighbourhoods, from not only the vehicular traffic involved but also from the potential emission of noxious gases from the processing systems, I request that the deadline date of May 24, 2020 be differed until the fall of 2020 to allow further discussions in a more open way due to restrictions placed on all of us by the Co vid-19 pandemic.
Your sincerely
