As a nearby resident, I have many misgivings about this proposal. Firstly, I find it very telling that they would propose to locate this immediately adjacent to a United Way Priority Neighbourhood (Kingston-Galloway). I doubt that they might even consider such a proposal in Rosedale or the Beach neighbourhoods. Second, this is far too close to residential neighbourhoods. The smells, the increased truck traffic, and the accompanying pollution (both from the site itself and from the trucks along the routes that they would take) are not suitable for such a neighbourhood. Third, Lawrence Ave. was just resurfaced. The trucks entering the leaving the facility on a daily basis will wreak havoc on the surfacing. This is in an area that already had many challenges associated with the road resurfacing and underground infrastructure. Fourth, the trucks will likely be traveling along Port Union Rd., adding to the already long-standing congestion that occurs in relation to the GO train schedules. Although this may be eventually mitigated by the widening of Port Union Rd., it is still a valid and relevant concern. Fifth, the proposed site is sandwiched between two sources of surface water, dramatically increasing the risk to waterways from effluents.
You can expect much opposition from the community, and will increasing find opposition and news about this proposal spreads. I have concerns that the comment period may be too short as many in the affected communities are still unaware of this proposal.
