Noise is a big issue for our peaceful community. Plant operations will be ongoing night and day. The secondary noise screening document identifies 10 sources of noise from operations of the plant e.g. blowers forklifts trucks, and noise levels calculated for most of these reach the mid thirties - not far from the sound level limit of 45. Missing from this noise assessment screening, is the constant noise from the alarm beeping of trucks backing into the buildings , though it could be the most disturbing to residents in the area - especially at night. Again the noise from hundreds of trucks driving to and from and the plant along our streets must be included as this is an integral part of the operation of the plant. A major population study found that the behaviour of children is adversely affected by traffic noise.
The cumulative impact of the combined 10 sound levels was 45 - using Manufacturer’s Specifications of Sound Levels at a Distance. However the document states that this facility meets all of the requirements of the secondary noise screening method - that is the screening method, not the sound limit. No doubt the plant would not meet this limit if the alarm system on backing trucks was included. Meeting the maximum permitted sound limit is not an acceptable proposition for residents living northwest of this plant 24/7/365. This noise will constitute a major problem for resident’s enjoyment, and value of their property, sleep, and mental health.
