As a master falconer from the USA, I can attest to how important it is for falconers to have access to trapping wild raptors. Most of my falconry career I have legally used wild redtail hawks for falconry. Every one I trapped was well cared for, and ended up being released back into the wild after I finished hunting with them. I would like to think that the high quality diet, extra veterinary care, and extra hunting experience gained during each birds time as my hunting companion has given it an edge in surviving in the wild after release.
Each bird I used for hunting was also used in educational programs to help create awareness for conservation issues in my country. After all, if a inner child has never seen a hawk up close, or watched it hunt in person, then why would they care for conserving such animals?
I know several people who are directly involved with conservation efforts, and conservation research on wild raptors specifically because they developed a love of raptors when they became a falconer.
The way I see it, allowing falconers better access to wild hawks can only result in a boon for falconers, conservation, and the wild raptors themselves.
