Ontario should permit the wild take of raptors for falconry purposes. Many biological studies have already been done over many years supporting this position as up to 80% of first year raptors do not survive to their first moult. Many falconers release these passage birds after their first year to join the breeding population. This is a sound conservation practice and should be permitted. Ontario is not unique and should follow other provinces/ states in allowing the take of wild juvenile raptors. These birds are migratory and will move in and out of the area as dictated by nature.
