The MZO in general is a terrible thing. This circumvents policies and municipality decisions, and is completely undemocratic. Our levels of government are elected to represent the people, and the MZO overrides this. Adding the suggested change to allow the MZO to even overrule provincial policy makes this even worse than it originally was. It should never be allowed to override these policies, or the rights of municipalities to reject development due to unsuitability for the area, and the environment should definitely be at the forefront of all decisions as once something is destroyed it cannot be replaced. Mitigation does not address damage done, mature trees and wetlands cannot realistically be replaced, and all of this needs to be protected. Input from those who are experts in hydrogeology, environmental concerns should always be taken seriously and followed, and never overruled, as our future is at stake and this not the time for careless decisions.
