While from an environmental perspective I fully support protecting ecologically sensitive areas, I think one of the biggest consequences of the existing Greenbelt being implemented is a substantial increase in the cost of housing due to limiting development across significant swaths of land within urban boundaries. This has resulted in home ownership being out of reach for many Ontarians in addition to continuous sprawl and traffic caused by sprawl (also impacting the environment in a negative manner).
