I am a neighbour to the Miller Boyington Pit #3. I strongly oppose the application for 36 hectares of land to be removed from MNR oversight. This land is part of the Oak Ridges Moraine and sits on top of a highly vulnerable aquifer. Allowing the application would then allow the Township of Uxbridge to permit dumping of fill on this land. All of the homeowners in this area rely on wells for water. This proposal puts our water source in danger of contamination.
The land in this part of the township is agricultural and it is my understanding that gravel pits are to be returned to their original state after the gravel is removed. This is not an appropriate area for an industrial site. Uxbridge Township has an industrial site at Bloomington Road and Durham 30 where Miller could have a contractor's yard.
Allowing this land to be removed from MNR oversight sets a dangerous precedent for the many other gravel pit operations in our township. Please do not approve this application.
