I would strongly Urge the Government to remove Schedules 5 and 19 from Bill 276 Supporting Recovery and Competitiveness Act, 2021.

These Schedules will make the development of renewable energy more difficult in Ontario.

The entire world recognizes the importance of developing renewable energy sources as soon as possible.

A recent example is the International Energy Agency, which declared in its "Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector" Report (issued May 18, 2021) that “Renewable energy technologies like solar and wind are the key to reducing emissions in the electricity sector, which is today the single largest source of CO2 emissions".

Failing to encourage the development of renewable energy sources will

- increase reliance on fossil fuels for electricity generation which will cause increased GHG emissions, and exacerbate climate change,

- lead to air increased air pollution, with the consequent negative effects on the health of Ontarians, and

- lead to increased future costs for electricity, as in many countries renewable power sources are proving to be cheaper than fossil fuel electricity generation.

Schedules 5 and 19 of Bill 276 will send a strong message to

- investors: Ontario wants no part of the investment and jobs that a thriving renewable energy sector will provide, and

- Ontario's youth: the current government has little interest in taking action on climate change in order to provide the Province's youth with a liveable world.

Please do the right thing by removing Schedules 5 and 19 from Bill 276 and supporting the development of renewable energy sources in Ontario
