This government is under the impression that Ontarians only care about money in their pockets and low taxes. Well I have news for Doug Ford. I, like many others, do not mind paying a little more if it means clean air and water and a reduction in greenhouse gasses. Reducing carbon emissions will involve some sacrifice. That is the price we all have to pay--whether we like it or not.
Leadership is about doing the right thing. Leadership is not about putting more money into people's pockets. It's about doing what is right for society as a whole. That would include a low carbon economy so that Ontario can compete with the rest of the world, which is headed in that direction. We also have a legal and moral obligation to reduce carbon emissions.
If this government does not think that cap and trade will not do anything to improve the environment it has an obligation to prove it. Where is the research to prove this? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT, PLEASE.
Also, before dismantling cap and trade there needs to be another plan in place to reduce emissions in a drastic way. It is irresponsible to not to do so.
Also, the way I understand it, if cap and trade is eliminated, it means that polluters are now free to pollute without penalty. IS THAT WHAT ONTARIANS WANT? DIRTY AIR? PLEASE ASK THEM.
