As a data scientist I am used to working with data and ensuring that decisions are driven by underlying patterns and trends.
The following things appear to have strong support with data in regards to carbon pricing:
1. Some form or carbon pricing is meaningful due to substantial subsidies for the related industries, or as World Bank puts it :
"A price on carbon helps shift the burden for the damage back to those who are responsible for it, and who can reduce it."
2. Charging producers of emissions VS consumers leads to faster adoption of emission reduction technology and processes while being less damaging to lower income people.
3. Cap and Trade as it is designed in Ontario had a measurable positive effect on economy, including government proceedings re-directed to school renovations, retrofitting programs etc.
I strongly believe that continuing with existing cap & trade system until a better one is created should be the way to go for my province.
