As a mother, my little humans are my world and nothing is more important to me than their health and happiness. Unfortunately, their well-being is being threatened by climate change. I want my children to be able to go outside and play without the risk of poor air quality, or forest fires, or constant heat waves.
Once I started truly educating myself on climate change, it was terrifying to say the least. It’s not a problem for future generations to figure out anymore. Either we stay on this path or we take the more difficult route and become better for this planet, ourselves, and our children. As alarming as the situation is, it is what has encouraged me to act. When my sons are older and ask why the condition of the world is what it is, I want to be able to tell them that I tried my best to give them the future they deserve.
Therefore, here I am expressing my deep concern for the cancellation of the cap and trade. This is a step in the wrong direction. The climate crisis must be everyone's priority, including the provincial governments. You have the power to change my children's fate. I beg you to do all that you can to protect them from the worst that climate change has to offer, by holding polluters accountable and by supporting clean energy. That being said, the cancellation of the Cap and Trade is a short-sighted decision for our economy. It needs to be understood that the fight against climate change is an opportunity to grow our economy. Morally and economically, the cancellation of the cap and trade is not a wise decision.
On the behalf of all mothers and fathers, I am asking you to reconsider the cancellation of the cap and trade. Let’s move in the right direction together!
