The urban centric Ottawa…

The urban centric Ottawa council as part of their self declared climate emergency has decided along with their Agenda 21 staff that they will convert to "green energy; wind and solar". Ottawa is situated on the Ottawa River, a source of clean AND DEPENDABLE hydro electric power. Ottawa and Ontario are in a subarctic climate and we must have cheap, reliable energy both to power our lives and to keep us warm in Canadian winters. With their self aggrandizing attitude this urban centric council and staff have decided that these ineffective wind and solar farms can go in the rural part of the City. Neither of these are effective as neither the sun nor wind are constant and must be backed up by other means (generally, cheap, clean natural gas generators). The total carbon footprint is greater as well as the permanent disfigurement of our rural communities. When their limited, effective lifespan is over, many of the component parts cannot be recycled and tons of concrete are left buried just below the surface of farm fields. These projects are also incredibly divisive in communities and given the current state of our City, Province and Nation, more division is the very last thing that we need.
In summary this is a bad idea. Other than to give bragging rights to self important green warriors this is not only inefficient but does more damage to our planet rather than less.
