I can not understand why the Premier wants to roll back environmental benefits that are also economically sound. This seems like a politicised move to demonstrate how little Ontario cares for the environment and health.
The previous government implemented a plan which has helped people and businesses use less fuel and cleaner energy, lowering Ontario’s carbon pollution by four per cent a year. How could that be a bad thing???
The cap-and-trade system makes polluters pay a fee for the carbon pollution they create and then uses that money to invest in programs to help cut those emissions. For all of the challenges with cap-and-trade, scrapping it would take over a billion dollars worth of climate programs with it.
This makes no sense! Even if it saved money, why is it worth it when our kids' health and our grandkids' future is at risk. I am very frustrated with the current Ford government which thinks only about money and business and makes decisions that don't even help businesses who had the good sense to make investments to improve their environmental footprint.
Do you remember when we had 30 smog days one summer? I won't go back to that situation. My mother, my nephew, my father and I have all had cancer, along with lots of nephews and aunts and uncles - my father didn't survive. We don't need more pollution, we need a cleaner planet so we can be healthier.
Please don't eliminate the Green Ontario Fund which offers free smart thermostats, rebates for solar panels and grants to better insulate homes. It also cuts funding to schools, hospitals and social housing for energy efficiency, which ultimately saves taxpayers money.
