I am not in favour of this proposal. 1) The Greenbelt was set aside to protect fertile, natural, important lands including the moraine, which is responsible for clean local water, from development. We can not change the rules everytime some new government finds parts of the Greenbelt inconvenient. There is so much room still available within our city borders to be used for multi-dwelling housing. Every strip mall is basically a waste of space. We have seen many solutions put in place. Brewers Retail Stores are being replaced by 5-7 story midrises within Toronto which is providing many new homes. It is not sensible to think that we can keep on sprawling our cities, we need to protect bio-diversity. The more sprawl > the more CO2 & Methane, more pavement all leads to a deteriorating planet. Soon countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh will be under water. We are not exempt either > look to forest fire and hurricane destruction. I for one would be happy to move to a multi-room condo which is built to environmentally friendly standards. North of Toronto is a complete mess, Farms are being destroyed left right and centre. A travesty as is this proposal.
