Although the cap and trade policy is not the best way to reduce the use of C02, it is better than no clear policy at all. It provided incentive and a monetary contribution for research and development of innovative ways to reduce GHG emissions and it was working. It provided incentive for foreign investment in Ontario as climate improved and Ontario was perceived as a leader in climate change. The present government is scrapping the cap and trade and the carbon tax yet has no better policies in place to prevent Green House Gas (GHG) emissions. Also the repeal of the carbon tax is a strictly political move to pacify constituents in the short term. The Federal Government will replace this tax in the new year with possibly a more stringent tax on carbon emissions. We need strong climate laws and a government that is willing to commit to the reduction of GHG for the future. Please do not scrap the cap and trade until a much better solution can be determined.
