There is no doubt about the housing crisis in Canada and Ontario in particular. This is NOT the way to solve this crisis. Destroying green spaces will only cause a strain on resources down the line (for example when flooding occurs as a result). Green spaces and conservation lands should be maintained and other options explored. Taxing those with more than 1 property. Rent stabilization. Building useable housing on pre existing sites. Investing in community supports such as shelters, Mental health organizations and addiction services.
This proposal financially benefits few, while devastating natural resources and likely causing further strains on resources. The biggest issue is lack of AFFORDABLE housing, not necessarily housing generally. Focus on this first.
