This proposal is short-sighted and an insult to Ontarians. I am an Ontario resident that would benefit from more affordable housing, however I am dismayed that this is the course of action deemed appropriate by the Ontario Government. It is clear that this decision is being pushed forward by people who do not value our natural landscapes and what they provide us as Canadians. Treating our natural land & resources only as "something to be consumed" is dangerous in the long run. Wild animals use these green spaces as their homes, some migratory animals use them as safe travel corridors during migration season. They will not just cease to exist because we've developed the land. Red-Tailed Hawks & Peregrine Falcons use high rises all over the GTA for hunting because we took over their ancient hunting grounds. The animals that live in the greenspace will be pegged as nuisance animals and 'removed' - all for what? Housing that the average Ontarian probably can't even afford?
My family use these larger green spaces as temporary escapes out of the city hustle & bustle. Not all of us have the privilege of owning a cottage we can visit in the summer. Don't take them away from us.
