With the movement toward climate change, recession looming to develop in green spaces makes no sense. Green spaces moderate temperatures, ensure clean water and and make homes for diverse ecosystems. Single family dwellings have been shown to increase the cost of running/managing city infrastructure. When inner city and more medium and high density areas would benefit from development we have developers who don’t have the benefits of higher concentration areas in mind where your tax supports easier maintained infrastructure as well as environmental options like more bicycles and walking to reduce need for cars. Not to mention there is no real follow through with public transport making it inconvenient to live in these areas.
It’s time to rebrand tight knit medium and higher density communities. Services, activities and affordable living should be the focus. Not placating developers with ideas stuck in 2000.
