Scientists at the international level are giving us two years to get Paris right or we will have to take much more aggressive measures and may possibly be past the tipping point on exponential climate change. I believe we are passing on an impossible situation to our children and our grandchildren. If you are going to cancel cap and trade you should not do it until you have a plan in place for an aggressive carbon tax that will have planned growth. Personally I prefer the carbon fee and dividend model where the tax is revenue neutral and returned directly into the pockets of all citizens. That way anyone who does not drive a car or takes transit will have money in their pockets and those who do drive vehicles and heat their homes with carbon energy will be reimbursed some of the increased costs. It is completely unconscionable not to have a serious climate plan with the biggest provincial economy in Canada.

I would also like to see an aggressive program to ensure there are electric charging stations everywhere that are fast enough to charge a car in half an hour -- my proposal would be the province pays for a second for every business that installs a first. We need to be moving to the electric car. I would hope as the auto industry tries to get a new boost with the USMCA that we get more than one electric car plant in Canada.

It is not sufficient to have a tax on carbon. We need to show people how they can themselves make the transition to renewable energy.

Of course, I obviously believe that cancelling wind and solar was a very bad move. They are by far cheaper than either gas energy or nuclear.

Let's make some economic decisions that pave the way for the future, not the past.
