I am writing to who this may concern today to state I am against changes to the greenbelt plan
It is a complete overreach and abuse of power to acomplish something the Ford Government promised it would not do.
It is therefore a violation of public trust and will function in further eroding the legitimacy and trust in our governing institutions in the eyes of the public.
It is also a direct threat to the very delicate ecosystems Ontario has so diligently worked to protect.
Ontarios greenbelt is also the largest greenbelt in the world, these proposed changes threaten this prestigious status.
Additionally, much of Ontarios greenbelt covers environmentally significant wetlands and flood plains. Forcing development on these lands will pose future financial burdens to the province when they will inevitably flood.
May hurricane Hazel (1954) be a reminder of the consequences of ignoring the dangers of flooding. It killed almost 100 people and caused over 135 million in damages (1.4 billion in 2022). Through Bill 23 and these proposed changes Ford government will be able to override the processes put in place to ensure such a tragedy never happens again. If these changes were to pass we would be dooming the province to a repeat of such a tragedy
