The intent is to integrate the PPS and Place to Grow into a new provincial wide planning policy instrument. There is very little concrete information provided however key takeaways from a Planning Ecology perspective are that changes to the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System remove all reference to the PPS indicating that changes to provincial protection of wetlands is likely going to be changed to open additional lands for development. The information also indicates that offsetting/compensation will be addressed to ‘provid[e] more options to reduce development impacts’. All of this is concerning and is anticipated to result in significant risks to Ontario’s Natural Heritage features.
