I am deeply upset that Premier Ford and and other elected officials are failing to honour their prior commitment to conserve the Greenbelt. They are willing to breach a promise that profoundly affects not only their constituents but future generations as well. It would appear that they value the financial gain of wealthy developers at the expense of their own credibility and to the detriment of the general voting population of GTA and Durham region. There are other sites available to accommodate affordable housing that would not encroach on Greenbelt lands; sites that would reflect a more sustainable approach and conform to the need to densify current developed areas rather that initiating more spawl. As for the Greenbelt area, if it were developed, it coud never be recovered. No responsible govenment would destroy such a precious resource. It's time our politicians started looking to the future with a vision of more than dollar signs.
