I am deeply concerned about…

I am deeply concerned about the devastating effects that will result from Bill 23 and want it withdrawn in its entirety. Premier Ford made a solemn promise to not change the Greenbelt and now that he has a majority he has broken his promise to the citizens of Ontario. Bill 23 will put our food security in jeopardy, as our best soil for growing food in this province is very scarce, and once paved over, is gone forever. Our drinking water sources will also be at risk. Once some land is removed, it will be all the easier to keep on removing until not enough Greenbelt is left to support us and also the ecology of vegetation and birds and mammals. This bill is antithetical to attempts to ameliorate climate change.

This is urgent for my generation and for my children and grandchildren.

The best path to increase much needed housing is by infill in cities. Premier Ford’s own experts have told him this and offered paths forward to achieve enough new housing without using any of the Greenbelt. If passed, Bill 23 will go down as the biggest political mistake of the Ford government. I will be among the many not voting for him again unless he drops Bill 23.
