Not only is this a political lie by the newly elected Ford government, but it is a slap in the face to the future generations of Ontarians.
Amendments to the Green Belt Act is not wanted and has been refuted many times by EXPERTS for years regarding home prices and availability of space. Further to this, Bill 23, is a Trojan horse for rural sprawl, further attacks Conservation Authorities and eliminating their few remaining powers as well as woodlands, wildlife habitat, flood protection and provincially significant wetlands. The Greenbelt to the developers!
I do support adding new protected land, but NOT at the expense of removing other sensitive land. Smarter integrated financial and land use planning is what sustains growth, vs. opening up sensitive protected lands. Supporting maintaining the Greenbelt for Agri-food helps communities and urban centres, for example, not to mention tourism and climate change mitigation efforts like flooding.
I do not support these changes, and will personally reach out to my entire personal and professional network to not support this change in legislation.
