Ontario needs a serious climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy, create jobs and be competitive in the $26 trillion renewable energy sector.
We also need a price on pollution, so that those who pollute our environment pay for their emissions and the revenues are returned to the pockets of Ontarians to help lower our carbon footprint. These emissions targets must be legally binding, in line with our obligations under the global Paris Climate Agreement.
Ontario should strive to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050, ending our dependence on limited, dirty fossil fuels. As part of this effort we must end subsidies, grants and exemptions for fossil fuel companies, redirecting this money to clean energy solutions which are clearly the only viable long term option as fossil fuel reserves gradually diminish and prices for them increase.
We must plan for the future, and the future is renewable.
