Objectively, the following has been determined (for example, by Ontario's Auditor General this week):
1) Developers scooped up Greenbelt land just before Ford opened it up to development. In any other jurisdiction, we would very strongly call this out as _extremely_ suspect.
2) The recent Housing Affordability Task Force Report has had its recommendations ignored by the Ford government. This strongly suggests that paving over Greenbelt land has to do with goals other than housing per se.
3) Similarly, highway construction recommendations made by provincial government experts have been set aside, in favor of projects such as Hwy 413 and the Bradford Bypass.
If we are to be taken seriously by ourselves and by others, we need to stick to promises (e.g., protecting the lands that we said we would protect) while simultaneously greatly distancing ourselves from _even_ _just_ _the_ _appearance_ of behaviours (insider information, kickbacks, abandonment of expert advice) that we would rightly and strongly condemn in any other jurisdiction. To do otherwise risks making Ontarians even more cynical of its governors.
