I am writing to express my concerns over the proposed sale of lands currently under the protection of the Greenbelt. I am saddened and frustrated by this decision. The people of Ontario have spoken loudly and repeatedly about their desire to keep the Greenbelt lands protected, yet here we are having to find ways to resist this latest move. It is small wonder that so many are seemingly disillusioned with politics and therefore disengaged. What are we to do when at every turn this government appears to be attempting to line the pockets of its donors to the detriment of everyone else? The stated reasons for the proposed land sale are spurious. The Ford Government's own task force has declared that a shortage of land is not the cause of the housing shortage. So, why the sudden need for land? I support an investigation by Ontario's integrity commissioner to determine what role those developers who hold Greenbelt lands played in bringing about this decision. Ecologically speaking, this proposal makes no sense. Protected lands need to have connectivity in order to fulfill their stated purposes. And, the lands potentially being added, are already protected by existing mechanisms. I do not want to see the current proposal move forward. I am firmly against this proposal.
