I believe that it is always important to not only consider the negative impacts a proposed plan or program will have, but also to value them. It has been determined that there will be major environmental impacts, including both biodiversity loss as well as loss of access to natural lands like farms and Indigenous areas. Then why are we still ignoring this? Why are we trying to promote a plan that faces backlash from the public... the same public who will be using this highway as well as losing their homes and space. It has taken so long for us to realize our mistakes as a nation towards the Indigenous community, and we have been trying to make things better and make their community more known, but isn't this action going to take one step back from our progress? Are we not going to lose the faith, trust, and support from this community by moving forward?
And the construction... it takes so long for things to be completed. Proposed finishing dates are pushing back and back. Would this not be disrupting the public's commute?
All in all, I really request everyone to think deeply... who is this really benefiting? Please remember to focus on the possible unintended consequences.
