I am strongly opposed to this proposal. While I understand the need to increasing house ing Ontario, this is not the appropriate way to address this. This land was protected for a reason and should not be opened up for development, and any moves to open it up will establish a precedent. It was not designed to be bartered and traded, and if the newly proposed land is worth protecting, it should be added to the greenbelt with a barter being required.
Further, sustainable house growth should focus on increasing density and urbanization. Not only does that approach protect the environment while targeting the housing shortage, but it is the fiscally responsible approach. Increased density allows municipalities to service more households with lower costs, allowing municipalities to keep taxes lower. Increasing urban boundaries will simply spread municipal resources thinner and negatively impact the environment and quality of life
