To whom it may concern.
I am reaching out it regards to the recent proposal changes to the Green Belt.
To put it bluntly, I have major concerns with these plans. We are living in a world where food costs are rising to record setting levels, and farmers are expected to produce high level yields with less and less land. While efficiency is something all farmers should strive for, removing some of the best farm land in the GTA for development is not going to help.
My other concern is the way this plan has been presented and have occurred. It is concerning to me as a citizen of Ontario that a large chunk of this “recently announced” Green Belt land now up for development has been purchased by developers within the last 12 months. The land in King Township by Bathurst and Green Lane was sold less than two months before the announcement. I find it difficult to believe there was not prior knowledge of this proposal by the developers who spent millions of dollars securing this property.
To sum it up, as an Ontarian who has grown up in the GTA (York / Durham specifically) I am concerned that our government is making this decision that goes against what communities want, farmers want, environmentalists want - all because developers want it. We are ruining chances at local food options by filling up our farm land with houses and this proposal needs to be rejected and stopped immediately.
Thank you for you time, I hope logic and reason rules over dollar signs when it comes to protecting the Green Belt.
