I do not support the proposed changes to the Greenbelt plan. While it is clear to all of us that there is indeed a housing crisis in Ontario, reducing protected lands should not be our answer. In the midst of the current climate crisis which we are already poorly addressing, it is not appropriate to remove protected lands for building homes. You are merely appearing to take action on a problem now, with questionable results, only to contribute to additional problems in our future.
Almost anywhere you look in cities and suburbs, new homes are already being built. How many homes end up being sold to families who will actually live in the homes, versus landlords who only seek to rent them back to families at higher prices, therefore reducing the supply of homes and furthering the housing crisis? What is being done to ensure that new homes are sold to people who need a home and not to simply put more money in the pockets of landlords? What is being done to ensure that the homes are actually affordable?Removing Greenbelt land as a means to appear as if our Government is taking action without solving the real problems that are keeping families from accessing homes is lazy and unacceptable. You do not have my support for this change.
