A place to Grow and Provincial Policy statement 019-6177
To ensure a well informed public response to the October 25th Provincial summaries, the conservative government neglected to give ample/appropriate time for thorough review all pertinent documents- due to ratification turmoil of educational workers, the transitions in Municipal and Regional councils, lack of initial news coverage, and in doing so the vast majority of the population of Ontario were not made aware of the full ramifications of Bill 23.
The scope of the following words including streamlined, transit stations, community infrastructure, clarified policy and policy direction are vague and without perimeters and definition. The summary fails to inform how infrastructure costs will be passed from the developer to the taxpayer.
For example water and wastewater, storm sewage needs to fall on the Developer costs especially considering the environmental landscape we find ourselves in with global warming/drought/flooding/sandstorms and the lack of Agricultural lands to ensure sustainability to feed our communities. This all needs to be in place before any housing discussions.
The Province has known about the projected shortfall in housing for decades and did not address this issue. Building subdivisions of new mega-homes on prime agricultural land. There has been neglect on all levels of government regardless of the party to address diverse housing.
Bill 23 needs a more in depth review before ratifying.
