• I want a real climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy.
• I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to the pockets of Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint.
• I want legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
• I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050
• I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
This statement from the Green Party says it all! I could not phrase it better nor more clearly.
it is a falsehood to say, as MPP Jamie Schmale has published in his recent flyer, that the carbon tax takes money from taxpayers that is never returned to them in savings. He has not properly done his arithmetic!
There are many programs possible that could return considerable savings to taxpayers and lower the carbon footprint at the same time. What Mr Schmale writes is simply incorrect. His figures are contrived to give the impression of a carbon tax rip-off for taxpayers, with no benefit accruing to them. In fact if it were better planned in the jurisdictions where it is in place or proposed, considerable financial benefit could accrue to individuals.
Meanwhile Mr Schmale's are false and misleading. His advisors need lessons in basic math and finance.
