Please Approve Waterloo Region's Official Plan Amendment #6

Please approve Waterloo ROPA 6 without any changes, modifications, or urban boundary expansions that the province has been forcing in other parts of Ontario.

Our Regional Official Plan Update has been broadly endorsed and supported by all of our local Councils, our citizens, our First Nations, and our community groups such as the Grand River Environmental Network who has worked for years on the visionary and sustainable concepts included in this plan.

Our group has been advocates and stewards for decades speaking up across the entire Grand River Watershed. Our efforts have help our communities become unique in all of Ontario and leading globally on water efficiency, recycling, Greenbelts, land protection, active transportation, public transportation, Green Development Standards and sustainability.

In an era of global climate change this is the plan that our water constrained community needs for the future with tens of thousands of new homes to be rapidly built sustainably, efficiently and far more affordably than elsewhere in province.

Our unique and leading rates of intensification have revitalized our core areas and attracted leading companies from around the world in a manner not seen elsewhere in Canada. This ROPA 6 builds on this success and is the plan that we need for the decades ahead.

On behalf of all the individuals and groups that belong to the Grand River Environmental Network, we urge the Minister and Premier to approve our Regional Official Plan Amendment 6 completely intact and with any modifications as we have already approved it locally with such overwhelming support.
