We are a communal well system, in compliance with the Regulation. We are supportive of anything that improves the safety of consumers but it all comes at a cost that never seems to be acknowledged. We chose to go with exemption of treatment mainly because of costs. We already pay significantly more then those on municipal systems. Adding a disinfection system that would increase testing and reporting requirements would double our costs again. It is easy to say all Canadians have the right to good clean water. They also have the right to get it at an affordable cost.
The only access we have to add disinfectant is through the well caps, making it very difficult to adjust fcl2 levels. Installing a system in the pumphouse, that could be used for temporary disinfection, would be best. But will that be considered a change to the system and require the cost of an engineers report? Hopefully there is some common sense inputted in this proposal.
And lastly, just noting. We do not have the option of connecting to a municipal or a non-municipal system. And our current wells are on a very small lot with no room to drill another. So we are left with one of the 4 options shown.
Thank you for the opportunity to offer our input.
