I want the Ontario government to keep Cap & Trade legislation and to build from it as we go toward a 100% clean economy by 2050!
I want a climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy. I understand that the previous Ontario government had set a policy that at least part of the revenues realized from Cap & Trade were being put back into retrofitting housing, for instance - thereby helping residents lower their carbon footprint. This was a positive step. As a tax payer and a consumer, I realize that the prices of some / all of my purchases may be effected by Cap & Trade legislation; I see those price increases as my investment in Ontario turning the corner toward the clean economy. Cap & Trade will drive industry innovation! I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to the pockets of Ontarians so they can in turn lower their carbon footprint.
The cap and trade legislation at least sets the groundwork which provides businesses and industry guidelines by which to go forward, in keeping with Canadians' obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement. Emissions targets should be legally binding, and undoing the existing legislation will be a step backward when time is of the essence in trying to limit the effects of drastic climate change!!
I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
