The proposal to cancel the Cap and Trade program does not make any sense whatsoever. The reason why the current cap and trade legislation is in place is to provide a means to address climate change by providing incentives to industry to reduce emissions. That in itself is part of an action plan to address climate change. What is the rationale for abolishing something that clearly works? Providing for a clear climate action plan is a good idea but removal of the cap and trade provisions is premature without sound rationale layed out in a climate action plan
Also, how is cap and trade negatively impacting our Ontario economy? This proposal as posted, does not provide any answers to these questions. I do not see any rationale for this new legislation in this proposal.
Protecting the environment leads to a healthy community and citizens. How is the current legislation not for the people of Ontario?
When there is a financial incentive for industry to reduce carbon emission, it has been demonstrated across the globe, that it works.
Canada is trying to meet it's obligations through the Paris Accord and use of cap and trade is a recognized method to reduce carbon emissions.
This a moment in time for Ontario, for the sake of current and future generations, to not be negligent of our responsibility to enact policy that makes a difference for clean air and the health of the planet. Don't blow it by abolishing current legislation that is intended to address climate change directly.
