Climate change is the greatest test humanity has yet been put to. It is the opportunity to rise above our short sightedness and self interest so that tomorrow remains a livable and safe place.
Everyone must act to drastically resuce emissions. But this does not mean economic disadvantage. There are plenty of ways a greener economy can grow, from battery engineering and manufacturing to building greener vehicles and electric charging stations. Jobs in the carbon sector will be lost with time, no matter ehat happens. What Ontario now has is a chance to let go of the past and look to the future. Doing so is much more likely to ensure prosperity as we adapt to the new reality we have created.
I am particularly affected by the revocation of the cap and trade system as it was my plan to get a PHEV vehicle next year. I plan to get one anyway to show my commitment to fighting climate change and to a future I will not be ashamed to pass on to my child. I would think that our government would at least have the foresight to think about the future of its constituents - the very people it is meant to represent. No person would want a dark future for their child. The government has the resources to know that climate chamge threatens that future. If most people can agree that a bright future is desirable, it is our government's duty to help ensure that. And in this case, this means fighting climate change by not repealing the only mechanism that funds programs with that goal.
Do not repeal cap and trade or if you do, replace it with something even better - to ensure a liveable and safe future for our little Ontarians.
You know that is the right thing to do.
