Bill 4 is an unfortunate, retrograde step that would hurt today’s Ontarians; more important, it would do infinite harm to Ontario’s future citizens.
The Cap and Trade program was working and generated significant revenues that were used to support projects and programs that reduced Ontario’s Greenhouse Gas emissions. Polluting the Earth’s atmosphere cannot continue to be a free gift to polluters. Pricing carbon is a more effective and a more efficient method of reducing carbon emissions than imposing complex regulations that would be a burden on Ontario’s businesses.
Climate change is real and we are already experiencing its consequences and costs. The need for climate action is urgent! There was a time when conservatives provided leadership in environmental protection. Bill 4 represents a repudiation of conservative values and does not serve Ontario’s best interests.
