I am very disappointed and distrubed by this bill. The role of government is think and act long term, something markets do not do well. One of those things is providing an environment in which markets can operate. It is clear that the current market forces are doing great harm to our physical environment and government is best equipped to steer those forces in better directions. By getting rid of the plan to do that with nothing to replace it, my government is telling me it only cares about the proverbial profit projections in the next quarter.

It is my sincere hope that something is done soon to help curb the insatiable desire for growth from the market forces at work in Ontario today. Sustainability is an important part of a healthy civilization and the move to get rid of the cap and trade plan is not a step toward such a civilization in the long term. It is a moral imperative to think beyond ourselves. I urge the government to look beyond the current generation and think carefully about later ones. The physical enviornment in which we live is more important than a lower price on goods.
