The cancellation of the Cap …

The cancellation of the Cap & Trade Program in such a abrupt and disruptive manner is ill-conceived and without any appearance of rational thought.

It is reckless step which only hurts Ontario families and businesses and has already caused our province to lose credibility with the domestic and international business community. A jurisdiction which fails to honour the basic tenets of contract law will hardly be trusted in future dealings.

Failure to have any credible climate plan or targets before gutting the existing program and regulations does not give me or many others any confidence in the promised future plan.

The UK model of targets and plans enshrined in law is recommended by the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario in her recent report of the Climate Actions of the government or lack thereof, in this case.

Some other key components of the ECO's report recommendations include:
Polluter pay - a fundamental concept embraced by many governments, including those of a conservative bent, including those of Prime Minister Harper.
Investing in Solutions in the low carbon future is also a way to stimulate the jobs and economic growth your government advocates.
Regulating polluters to ensure targets are met.

Ontario taxpayers have already funded an excellent report on the state of Climate Action in Ontario, by the ECO, as noted in the website link below.
Please follow ALL the recommendations in her report.

The federal PCF which levies a price on climate pollution with all proceeds collected in Ontario returned to Ontario households (Taxpayers) would be the respect for us that your government promises. This would make more sense than wasting our hard-earned tax dollars on a frivolous court case against the federal government in which all Ontarians are paying for the lawyers on both sides of the case!
