I am writing to express my concern, and objection to allowing Ssonix Products 2010 Inc. the amendment required to recommence operations at their 20 Keefer Road facility in St. Catharines.

As a resident living within 300 meters of their facility who was forced to evacuate on the morning of Jan. 12, 2023, I am still experiencing multiple negative effects associated with the explosion, subsequent fire, and problematic evacuation from the Port Weller East community.

The City of St. Catharines Fire Services has laid 84 charges for violations of the fire code against Ssonix Products 2010 Inc., and three of its directors subsequent to the investigation of the Ontario Fire Marshall's office. Until these are resolved it would be irresponsible for Ssonix to be allowed to begin operations again.

Additionally, investigations by the Ministry of Labour, and your own Ministry are still pending. The outcome of these investigations is not expected until sometime in 2024. To allow Ssonix to process and store combustible, hazardous waste materials in temporary structures, i.e., repurposed sea containers, is to place the interests of a corporation currently under investigation for non-compliance with multiple fire codes ahead of the safety of the environment and our community.
I respectfully request that you deny Ssonix Products 2010 Inc., the requested amendment until the MoE and MoL investigations are completed, and all outstanding provincial charges are resolved. Thank you.
